DATABASES Triage a Computer "Pulling the plug" on a live system -- desktop or laptop -- is not without inherent risk. All stored volatile information -- system time, the users logged-on, lists of open files, network information and connections, process information, contents of the clipboard, mapped drives, the contents of RAM, etc. -- is lost when power is removed. Triaging a computer allows investigators to gather volatile data that would be lost by pulling the plug on a live system. This article will provide guidance to help investigators preserve computer-related evidence. This document is located in the Core Database under document #612047. Generating New Revenue Streams The common reaction to a budget crisis is reducing personnel and cutting services. The focus of this article is to provide police agencies with an alternative to personnel and service reductions. This alternative could help the survival of a city and maintain or expand police service through generating new revenue streams as a proactive approach to meet the fiscal crisis of today and the uncertain future of tomorrow. This document is located in the Core Database under document #611917. NETWORKING New Survey: Take Home Vehicles Where does your department stand on the issue of take home vehicles?
