DATABASES

Effects of the TASER X26 on Police Service Dogs

Since the implementation of the TASER X26, there have been questions about the usage of the TASER X26 and its potential effect on a police canine, if deployed on a suspect in conjunction with the dog. The results here reflect tests conducted with two retired police service dogs in several scenarios pertaining to deployment of a TASER X26. This document is located in the Core Database under document #609624.

Exigent Circumstances

Most people would probably agree that officers who encounter exigent circumstances should be permitted to do whatever is reasonably necessary to quickly defuse the situation. Certainly, everyone who pays taxes would insist upon it. But strangely, the courts have been unable to provide officers with a useful definition of the term "exigent circumstances." Several courts have become aware of the problem and have taken steps to correct it. In fact, there may now be a consensus on the composition, basic principles, and requirements of the subject. This document is located in the Core Database under document #609644.

Police Investigations of the Use of Deadly Force Can Influence Perceptions and Outcomes

Basic law enforcement training covers using force, including deadly force, and investigating crimes, even those involving assaults and shootings by police. The relationship between these two events -- the use of force and the police investigation of this use of force -- can have far-reaching consequences, both good and bad, for the public, the department, and the officers involved. This document is located in the Core Database under document #609387.
