DATABASES

Midnight Shift and Health Risks: New Study Tells Sobering Truths

Officers who predominately work midnights are at greater risk of developing severe health problems than civilians and other cops, especially if they average more than about 90 minutes of overtime per week and have trouble sleeping. This document is located in the Core Database under document #609020.

Civil Liability for Exceeding the Scope of a Search Warrant

The Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and equivalent provisions in the Constitutions of each of the individual states, prohibits "unreasonable" searches and seizures, and contains a warrant requirement for many searches into private homes and businesses. Searches and seizures that run afoul of these requirements may result in suppression of evidence under the exclusionary rule, and may also result, in some cases, in civil liability for officers, supervisory personnel, and municipalities under a federal civil rights statute. This document is located in the Core Database under document #609117.
