New Feature – Research Folders IACP Net is proud to debut its newest feature: the Research Folders. Research Folders provide a way to gather and store your research into one location. You can include IACP Net documents, Internet links and other notes in one place. If you are interrupted or your research takes place over time, Research Folders gives you quick and easy access to this information at any time. You can create Research Folders by topic or for specific projects, and even have the option to share them with others in your department. Check out the Research Folders today, located under the Support heading on the gold toolbar. Conference Update IACP Net representatives will showcase the benefits of IACP Net at two conferences in July. Please visit us at booth #16 at the Summer CALEA Conference in Boca Raton, Florida, July 23-24, 2008. We will also be exhibiting at the FBI National Academy Associates 2008 Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, July 27-28, 2008, in booth #229. Stop by to learn more about using IACP Net or to let us know how IACP Net helps you. Thanks to Contributing Members! Thank you to the following police departments and sheriff's offices for providing information to be added to the IACP Net databases in the second quarter of 2008: Anchorage, AK; Brook Park, OH; Chevy Chase Village, MD; College Station, TX; Colorado Springs, CO; Groton City, CT; Helena, MT; Howard County, MD; Jupiter, FL; Lakeland, FL; Norfolk, NE; Ocean City, MD; Parma Heights, OH; Redondo Beach, CA; Rutgers University, NJ; Saint Clair, MI; Saint Louis Metropolitan, MO; Texarkana, AR; and West Chicago, IL. If your e-mail is not set to view HTML, you will not see IACP Net Alert properly. Click here to view it online, or contact us at iacpservice@login-inc.com or call 800.227.9640. Because IACP Net is a secured website, links are not available to the following information, but we have a direct link to the sign-in page at the end of this newsletter. DATABASES "A Mentor's Perspective on Choosing to be a Police Chief" While it may seem like a logical step to aspire to be the chief of police one day, there are many aspects of the job that are not as glamorous as they may seem at first glance. If you are at a point in your career where you are contemplating applying for your first position as chief, there are some things you should consider before taking that next step. The full text of this article can be located in the Core Database under document #598686. "New Study: TASERs "As Safe As Weapons Can Be," Not "Instruments of Death"" Self-described as "kind of a nerd" who approaches tedious research as recreation, Chief Howard Williams of the San Marcos (TX) PD patiently tracked down and analyzed 213 cases in which suspects in the U.S. died after being TASERed. The search took more than a year and cost thousands from his own pocket, but in the end Williams has documented what TASER supporters have long believed: These devices are "safe weapons. At least they are as safe as weapons can be." This document is located in the Core Database under document #598635. NETWORKING Quest-Response Recognition Program It's not too late to qualify for the 2008 IACP Conference travel package in San Diego, CA by participating in the Quest-Response Recognition Program. Each month through August that you respond to at least two Quests, your name will be entered in the drawing for up to $1,000 to reimburse travel expenses as well as one paid conference registration up to $350 in value. For complete rules, please see the Quest-Response Recognition Program information sheet. Patrol Vehicle Survey What does your department use as its primary patrol vehicle? Do you use Crown Vics?
