Quest-Response Recognition Program IACP Net's Quest-Response Recognition Program has gotten off to a great start in April and May, with many members qualifying for the 2008 IACP Conference travel package to San Diego, CA. Each user can qualify again in June by responding to two or more Quests. Review the recently posted Quests, respond to a couple, and get your name in the drawing for up to $1,000 to reimburse travel expenses as well as one paid conference registration up to $350 in value. For complete rules, please see the Quest-Response Recognition Program information sheet. IACP Net Alert highlights some recent additions to the online information resource for the business side of policing, www.iacpnet.com. DATABASES "High Fuel Costs: A Problem-Solving Challenge" As rising fuel costs put the squeeze on law enforcement department budgets, chiefs and sheriffs are searching for ways to sustain their current level of operations while using less gasoline. Some are finding their solutions in differential responses to calls for service, modified patrol methods, and use of vehicles with improved gas mileage or alternative fuels. The full text of this article can be located in the Core Database under document #598052. "The Next Step in Accountability-Driven Leadership: "CompStating" the CompStat Data" CompStat is not without its critics and detractors, including some who allege that the reported crime reductions are a result of "cooking the books." As CompStat has evolved over the years, the next logical step is to identify aggressive and thorough ways to analyze the outcomes of a department's use of data to ensure its integrity, reliability, and validity. This document is located in the Core Database under document #598342. NETWORKING Is Your Agency's Website Included? The Links section, located in Networking, allows you to find links to selected law enforcement websites, to increase the value of the time you spend on the Internet and eliminate lengthy search times. If your agency is not listed, please submit your website by completing the form on the Suggest a Site link. CURRENT AFFAIRS Training Presentations on Internet Safety The ICAC Task Force program, in conjunction with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and the NetSmartz program, has developed a downloadable training presentation on Internet safety for children and families. The presentations contain training programs for grades K-12 and another for parents and the community. The presentations are an excellent tool for teachers and media specialists in the school systems to teach Internet safety. For more information on this and other grant opportunities, please see the IACP Net Funding section. Misplaced IDs and Passwords? Not finding a particular document?
