Quest-Response Recognition Program
IACP Net would once again like to recognize and thank you for your participation and for supporting your peers. Each month from April through August 2008 that you enter two or more Responses in the Quest-Response Service, you will automatically be entered into the recognition drawing to be held in September. The winner will receive up to $1,000 to reimburse travel expenses to attend the 2008 IACP Conference in San Diego, California, as well as one paid conference registration up to $350 in value.

Last year’s program was a complete success. The Quest-Response Service saw record response rates, and several Quests had ten or more Responses. Chief Michael Lasnier from the Suquamish, Washington, Police Department was randomly selected as the winner from the 206 entries and attended the 2007 IACP Conference held in New Orleans, Louisiana. Please log on today to assist other departments with your experiences by answering a Quest or two. For complete rules, please see the Quest-Response Recognition Program information sheet, available on the site.

IACP/LOGIN Excellence in Victim Services Award
The IACP’s Victim Services Committee and LogIn, Inc., have joined forces in the development of a new award to honor law enforcement agencies that have made exemplary efforts in providing innovative service to victims of crime. Three awards will be presented at the IACP Annual Conference in San Diego based on agency size. Nominations for 2008 are being accepted now through May 2nd, 2008.

A Look at the 12-Hour Shift: The Lincoln Police Department Study
Work schedules based on a 12-hour shift are not yet commonplace in the law enforcement profession, but it is not hard to find agencies that have implemented them. The pros and cons of this scheduling alternative are often a matter of speculation for law enforcement executives looking for different ways to deploy scarce resources. This article offers a more objective look at 12-hour shifts based on a number of measures, including officer satisfaction, overtime, sick leave use, and employee performance measures. This article is located in the Core Database under document #597067.

Identity Theft Policy
This policy is from the Modesto, California, Police Department General Orders Manual. The purpose of this procedure is to standardize the reporting of identity theft cases and to provide additional procedures for officers when investigating and processing identity theft complaints. The full text of this document can be located in the Policies Database under document #597175.

Also, the Penny Harris Foundation is dedicated to assisting police departments in their quest to field quality police canine teams.
