DATABASES "Investigations Involving E-Mail" E-mail can be a starting point or a key element in many investigations. E-mail is the electronic equivalent of a letter or a memo and may include attachments or enclosures. Like paper or postal mail, an e-mail may represent evidence in many types of investigations. No longer exclusive to desktop computers, e-mail is now readily exchanged using many portable devices such as cell phones, PDAs, and pagers. This document, which details how e-mail works, is located in the Core Database under document #595557. "Understanding the Behavior of Bullying" Many violent offenders that been harassed, bullied, or rejected by classmates believe that violence and aggression is the only way to gain recognition and respect. The old adage, "Sticks and stones may break your bones, but words will never hurt you", might well have been written by the first bully attempting to diminish the hurt of harsh words or other types of bullying. Despite decades of research about bullying there are still gaps in our understanding of bullying. In particular, we know little about environmental factors that predispose children to become bullies. The full text of this article can be located in the Core Database under document #595645. NETWORKING The Aurora Police Department Needs Your Help! The Aurora, Colorado, Police Department is looking into creating a specialty unit focusing solely with computer-based crime, and would like to find out what other departments currently use. You can help them out by answering the Computer-Based Crime Unit Survey today. CURRENT AFFAIRS Free - Missing Child Poster Creation/Distribution When a child is reported missing, time is our greatest enemy. A study by the Washington State Attorney General's Office indicates that in 74 percent of the most tragic cases, missing-child homicides, the child is killed within the first three hours. With this in mind, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® launched LOCATER™, available to any law enforcement agency free of charge. LOCATER is a web-based poster-creation program that provides agencies with access to create and distribute their own posters to include Missing Children, Missing Adults, AMBER Alert, Wanted, Crime Alert, and other additional titles. The program allows agencies to distribute posters electronically and transmit the information to other agencies, media outlets, and the general public via e-mail distribution. For more information on this and other grant opportunities, please see the IACP Net Funding section. Misplaced IDs and Passwords? Not finding a particular document?
