Quest-Response Recognition Program The Quest-Response Recognition Program continues on, providing IACP Net members a chance for up to $1,000 to reimburse travel expenses as well as one paid conference registration up to $350 for the 2007 IACP Conference in New Orleans, LA. Just post two or more Responses in a month to qualify. For complete contest rules, please see the Quest-Response Recognition Program information sheet. The program has the Quest-Response Service buzzing. In April, the percentage of Quests that had Responses was higher than it’s ever been, and May is looking to be another great month. Several Quests have multiple Responses, one with 16! This is the perfect time to get an answer to your questions. Log on now, post a Quest, and the chances are better than ever that you’ll receive a quality answer. New Contact Us Page IACP Net has made it even easier for you to contact us by creating the new Contact Us page. This new section, found under the Support heading, brings together all the pages that allow users to make requests or submit content to IACP Net. It includes links to send a referral, request a custom search or free training, send feedback or look up contact information for an IACP Net staff member. It also contains links to forms where content such as announcements, events, web sites and product manufacturer and vendor information can be submitted for inclusion on IACP Net. IACP Net Alert highlights some recent additions to the online information resource for the business side of policing, www.iacpnet.com. If your e-mail is not set to view HTML, you will not see IACP Net Alert properly. Click here to view it online, or contact us at iacpservice@login-inc.com or call 800.227.9640. Because IACP Net is a secured website, links are not available to the following information, but we have a direct link to the sign-in page at the end of this newsletter. DATABASES "Less Lethal...But Still Lethal" The use of light/sound distraction devices, more familiarly referred to as "flash-bangs" or "stun grenades", has become a common tactic in such "high risk" entries. The device's job is to stun violent offenders momentarily, via a blinding flash of light and a violent explosion, giving tactical personnel an advantage during entry. There are several configurations of distraction devices, the most common of which is the grenade type device. This article addresses the use and misuse of that configuration, and is located in the Core Database under document #590273. "Uniform and Plain Clothes Attire, Equipment and Appearance Policy" This policy is from the West Palm Beach, Florida, Police Department Standard Operating Procedures Manual. The Department requires all members to be neat, well-groomed and professional in appearance and personal hygiene. The dress and equipment used by members of the Police Department will be properly maintained so that a positive image is projected. This policy is located in the Policies Database under document #590120. NETWORKING Police Officer Misconduct Roundtable How is police officer misconduct handled by your department? Are civilian review boards, solicitors general, independent auditors, or internal affairs unit used? How is racial profiling dealt with? What has your department done to curb police misconduct and improve police-community relations? Please share your thoughts and opinions in the Police Officer Misconduct Roundtable.
