Assaults in and Around Bars, 2nd Edition
This guide deals with the problem of assaults in and around bars. A lot is known about the risk factors for these assaults, and about effective responses to them. Less is known about which particular responses are most effective in addressing specific aspects of the problem. Therefore, the challenge is to conduct a good analysis of the local problem, guided by the information presented here and put together the right combination of responses to address that problem. This document is broken into separate chapters, and can be found by typing "around bars" (without the quotation marks) into Keyword 1 in the Core Database.

Internal Affairs
This policy is from the Isle of Palms, South Carolina, Police Department General Orders Manual. The policy is to ensure that integrity is maintained through an internal system where objectivity, fairness and justice are assured by intensive and impartial investigation and review, the purpose of which is to resolve the allegations and to facilitate fair, suitable and consistent action. The full text of this policy is located in the Policies database under document #588355.

Taser Roundtable
Many law enforcement agencies throughout the country are arming officers with Tasers. Is your agency using Tasers for all officers? What type of Taser is being used? What kind of training is done? Have you adopted a specific policy for Taser use? Has anyone experienced any injuries to officers and/or offenders? Do you think the public should be able to purchase a Taser for personal protection? Please share your experience with Tasers in the Taser Roundtable, and share whether you think they are a good alternative to other less lethal weapons.
