"Officers-per-Thousand: Formulas and Other Policy Myths"
It is time to challenge the assumptions and practices guiding staffing requests. The questions aren't "How busy are we?" or "Do we have as many officers as the next town?" The question should be "What will it take for us, in this community, to achieve our public safety goals?" This article is about how local leaders can connect this question to their own resource decisions. This document, produced by the International Association of Chiefs of Police, is located in the Core Database under document #594825.

"Guide For Law Enforcement Officers: Contact With People Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing"
As a law enforcement officer, you can expect to come into contact with people who are deaf or hard of hearing. Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 prohibits State and local government from discriminating against and individual with a disability. Municipal and State police and county sheriff departments are bound by this Federal law. The full text of this article can be located in the Core Database under document #595137.

Grant - Explosive Detection Canine Team
The National Explosives Detection Canine Team Program exists to deter and detect the introduction of explosives devices into transportation systems. In addition, bomb threats cause disruption of air, land and sea commerce and pose an unacceptable danger to the traveling public and should be resolved quickly. Explosives detection canine teams are a proven reliable resource to detect explosives and are a key component in a balanced counter-sabotage program. Canine teams consist of a fully trained and certified Transportation Security Administration owned canine and a canine handler from the participating agency. For more information on this and other grant opportunities, please see the IACP Net Funding section.
